Water Damage Prevention

Floods, just like other natural disaster, are very unpredictable, which is why having a plan for such a flood and water disaster is imperative.  Here are a few things you can do to prevent flood and water damage from occurring next time.   

1. Improve the water drainage system on your house. This can be done by installing/replacing gutters and downspouts or by redirecting rainwater away from your home with landscaping.
2. If possible, raise your electronics and kitchen appliances off the floor and onto higher shelves to keep them above any potential floodwaters.
3. Store valuable items in waterproof containers or sealed bags. Consider keeping important documents in a waterproof fire-safe box or safe deposit box at your bank.
4. Be aware of flood warnings and watches in your area. Stay tuned to your local news and weather reports for updates on any potential flooding threats.
5. Have an emergency "Plan B" in place for yourself and your family.  Know what to do and where to go if you need to evacuate your home quickly due to floodwaters.
